why do they blame me for their stupidity?

I work for 7-eleven. The company treats us fairly well but some of the customers need a rock thrown at their head. My favorite is when their card won't work at the gas pump and the come in angry. "Whats wrong with your gas pumps?" or "Whats wrong with my card?" Nothing is wrong with the pumps and I'm not your bank so how would I know why your card won't work? Then ask them what pump # they are at, 9 times outta 10 they will not know. After a rousing game of guess the pump number, ask how much gas they want to pay for. This will always get you an exasperated look like you're the stupid one which is always followed by "I don't know. I was gonna fill it up." Ask them about how many gallons and they are totally befuddled. How much did you spend last time you filled it up? Now you are just a smart ass. Usually they will leave for another store at this point and are gonna call your boss because you obviously don't know how to do your job and are rude.
