I had the displeasure of working at Ann Taylor for a year and a half and I am flabbergasted at the asinine policies from corporate to the joke that is called management. I was located at the Rockefeller Center location on 48th and 5th ave. Year one was not amazing for me there but I did not complain because I needed the job and unemployment was becoming common for the recession dominated our economy. I must state that I have a very hard work ethic for I am know for my hard work and dedication. I am glad to say that I was in good company with my co workers because they worked as well as me and we achieved many praise and accolades, especially out performing other stores within the district on a regular basis. Most of the time when people work hard they receive some recognition but that was not the case with this company.
The full timers were rewarded with pink slips for their years of dedication because the company wanted to cut the budget. This same company also paid money to Heidi Klum and Milla Jovavich to model their clothes for their marketing. I understand business but that was absolutely unnecessary. The part timers hours were severed and we were given 4 hours shifts. Management told us the most pathetic excuse that the performance of the associates decline after our breaks so they wanted to eliminate breaks altogether. We were also not allowed to work a certain amount of hours so if i was to work 20 hours a week, I have to come in 5 days to work. Not only that, but there was absolutely no consistency with the work schedule when it came to time because my schedule was 10am one day, 4pm the next day, 1pm the next day, 11:30am the next. This was the case every week for me.
Now this started happening when the new incompetent management staff came in. One manager disliked me for whatever reason and she tried to turn others against me. The other follower of a manager started manipulating my schedule where I would only work 8 hours for the week, 2 days. The store manager, who I never had a problem with, rejected my request for a transfer when I tried to go to another store that had a management opening. He insults me and puts me down saying that I show no leadership and that i am not qualified for management despite what my resume and work history says. 2 weeks later, he suddenly quits working for the company.
I receive a full time job offer from another place and I inform the manager that I want to change my availability, but she tells me that I cannot do that for i have to work the schedule given to me or she will have to terminate me. That made absolutely no sense for there were other employees who had full time jobs and their schedule was accommodated but no for me. I called and complained but to no avail for this companies lack class to allow this to happen not just to me but all the other associates who work hard to help that company. They even robbed me of money for my metro card that was left on a debit card by blocking me from getting my money back that I worked for and earned.
For all the people who was burned by corporate and management at Ann Taylor, I wish you all the best. AT sux and they are crooks for stealing my metrocard money.
